The win breaks the Jets run of away game losses and represents their first win on the road.
It also saw the Jets score first, which has been something they have not been able to do in any of their games to date. Nicole Jones header in the 34th minute put the Jets in front, followed soon after in the 44th minute by a long shot from the edge of the box by Emily Van Egmond.
The Jets went into half time with a 2-0 lead and started the second half confidently with Van Egmond scoring her second goal in the 46th minute from another long strike.
Once again the Jets new internationals came under the scrutiny of officials with Sanna Frostevall receiving a yellow card for a late tackle in the 63rd minute and Rebecca Smith for time wasting in the 77th minute.
The Jets scored their fourth goal courtesy of the experience of Matilda-s stalwart Joey Peters from a long range shot in the 77th minute.
The shell shocked Central Coast jumped on some midfield lapses by the Jets to score in the 65th minute with a goal by Renee Rollason and again in the dying stages of the match with Kyah Simon scoring in the 91st minute – but it was too little too late.
For Head Coach Gary Phillips, who by his own admission is a ‘hard taskmaster-, he was ‘happy- with the win ‘but not satisfied-.
‘At times again were we just lazy in the midfield and turned the ball over when we shouldn-t have and the Central Coast were quick to jump on those mistakes,- Phillips said. ‘We need to be stronger in the middle and keep up that strength for 90 minutes.-
Earlier in the week Phillips was looking for more from his young stars, particularly Emily Van Egmond and tonight she delivered with two goals.
‘Emily put in a good effort but I-m a hard marker and I still expect more from her. She is playing in a different role and she needs to settle into that role but tonight I think we saw glimpses of what she is really capable of.-
The win puts the Jets into second place on the Westfield W-League points table and provides a real confidence boost going into another away game next weekend against Melbourne Victory, before returning home for their final game at Wanderers Oval on December 14.
