Injured Newcastle Jets striker Marko Jesic remains in contention to play in the Round 1 game at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday week…
The Jets have received some positive news ahead of the season opener next Saturday with striker Marko Jesic remaining in contention to play in the Round 1 game at Ausgrid Stadium.
Jesic rolled his ankle during an intra-club match on Wednesday at Darling Street Oval and whilst it was only thought to be a minor sprain, today that was confirmed when he was reviewed by Dr Neil Halpin.
The young Socceroo will continue with his rehabilitation and remains a chance to play Saturday week.
“It has been a long pre-season and the thought of an injury this close to Round 1 was hard to take,” Jesic said.
“Thankfully it isn-t too serious and I will do everything I can to be right for next weekend against the Heart, let-s just hope my ankle recovers in time.”
In other good news for the Jets, Ryan Griffiths completed running and ball work without any restriction at training on Wednesday. Griffiths injured his hamstring in the 1-0 win over Sydney FC in Cessnock but returns to full training with the team on Friday and is available for selection for Round 1.
Jeremy Brockie is racing the clock to be fit for the season opener after a calf injury and will continue to be monitored as he increases his training load. The striker remains a chance to play in the Jets Round 1 game against Melbourne Heart.
