An Adam Taggart hat trick inspired the Jets to a 3-1 win victory over Melbourne Heart on the weekend, but Deans is adamant the side has plenty of improvement to do.
“We-re not getting too carried away with where we sit on the ladder, its more for us about working hard at our own performance and making sure that every day in training and every game we play that we maintain our standards,” he said.
“We need to keep improving otherwise you slip back a bit, so for us the focus on what we do as much as what other people think of us.
“We didn-t probably perform to our capabilities on the weekend even though we had a win, so we need to lift our game a little bit for this weekend.”
The Jets are unbeaten in their last six matches and sit equal third with Sydney FC on the A-League ladder; their opponent-s this weekend at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Sydney are the only side to defeat the Jets this seasons and Deans knows they face a tough challenge against an Alessandro Del Piero lead Sky Blues outfit this weekend.
“Obviously going down to Sydney in front of a big crowd it-s going to be a tough test for us so we need to manage our nerves and make start that we start the game well,” he said.
“I think the fact that they-re coming off three wins in a row as well and have a fair bit of confidence is going to make it a pretty tough game.
“We didn-t probably perform to our capabilities on the weekend even though we had a win, so we need to lift our game a little bit for this weekend.
“Yeah I think we need to start a bit better than we did last week we just turned the ball over a little bit too much and just need to be a little bit more composed.”
