Andrew Hoole says he would love to break his goal scoring duck for the Club but is happy contributing as long as the team keeps winning.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets attacker Andrew Hoole says he would love to break his goal scoring duck for the Club but he is happy just to contribute as long as the team keeps winning.
The young winger set up the opening goal on the weekend against Brisbane with an incisive run into the area before his dangerous ball across the six yard box was deflected into the back of the net for an own goal by Roar defender James Donachie.
“For sure, it-s always good to score a goal but as long I-m contributing that-s the most important aspect of my game,” Hoole said.
“Just to play in the games is a massive honour for me, to obviously get on the score sheet, which I haven-t done yet so hopefully in the next few weeks it might come.
“But to get an assist in the last game has given a bit more confidence going into the next game.”
After missing the opening two rounds of the season Hoole has been a mainstay in the Jets lineup ever since and although happy with his performances, he recognises he still has a lot of improvement to do.
“I-m very happy, the team has been doing very well which allows me to express myself on the pitch and everyone-s working hard here and taking that into games,” he said.
“Definitely, as a footballer you-re always looking to improve, there-s obviously areas of my game to look to improve and I work with the coaching staff each week and every day at training.”
Hoole was named in Australia’s squad to take part in the AFC U22 Championships in Oman in January along with Connor Chapman and Josh Brilliante and is excited by the opportunity to represent his country.
“It-s a very big honour, you always want to play for country as a young player so to be picked in that team is an honour and I cant wait to get over there,” he said.
“I-ll look to start as many games as possible and I-ve heard Ange is going over there to watch a few games as well so that-s a big boost for the players.”
Hoole admitted it was a positive to have Brilliante and Chapman as part of the squad and hoped they could all play a major part in such a big tournament.
“You play with these guys here at the club, it-s obviously a bit easier to get over there with a few of your team mates,” he said.
“I know a fair few players that are going over in the team so it-s good for an individual that you know some players that are already over there.”
The absence of three regular starters will test the Jets- depth in January but Hoole is confident there is enough quality in the squad to cover the losses.
“It-s always good to have competition for spots as a Club and with me, Joshy and Connor going over to Oman it gives another chance for a few more players to come in and do a good job,” he said.
“Gary-s got faith in the players and I-m sure they-ll do a very good job.”
