HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens Guide

Today the Newcastle Jets are making their inaugural appearance at the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens, a tournament just shy of its 20th year.

You’re probably wondering about the format, the rules and the schedule, well here’s everything you need to know about the 7-a-side competition.

The rules:

The majority of rules from the traditional format remain, with some minor changes:

  • The tournament comprises matches between teams of seven players per side on a pitch that is approximately 90 metres in length by 55 metres in width.
  • There shall be no application of the offside law.
  • Each league game will last seven minutes each half, with a one-minute break at half-time.
  • In the knockout phase of the Main Cup and Shield competitions, all games will last 10 minutes each half with a two-minute break at half-time.

Day 1 Schedule:

The competition is broken up into two days, with the group stage on Saturday 19 May and the Main Cup and Shield knockouts on Sunday 20 May.

We’ve drawn Group C and will take on Glasgow Rangers, Newcastle United and Hong Kong Football Club.

Game 1: Glasgow Rangers – 10.08am (local) 12pm (AEST)
Game 2: Newcastle United – 12.07pm (local) 2.07pm (AEST)
