Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets player Craig Goodwin has been invited to spend two weeks training with English Premier League Club Reading FC.

Goodwin will head to England to link up with The Royals on Monday, before returning to Australia on April 20.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in the A-League in 2012/13, making 25 appearances for the Jets and starting 21 matches.

Capable of playing as a left-back as well as in the left-wing position, Goodwin netted three goals and provided three assists in his first season in Newcastle colours.

The Australian Under 23-s representative said he is looking forward to the experience.

“I can-t express enough how great an opportunity it is,” Goodwin said.

“You don-t get these chances everyday, so for myself to have this chance is something I-m very thankful for.

“I don-t have any expectations heading over there really, I-m just open to a great experience.

“Particularly for myself as a younger player, it will be a great to learn and experience the game over there.”

Goodwin said having a full season of first-team football under his belt would help him to perform at his peak while in the UK.

“It-s been a good first season for myself personally,” Goodwin said.

“I-m in good stead for when I go over there, because I-m at the fittest I have been at the moment.”

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said Goodwin will benefit greatly from the time he will spend training with Reading.

“Heading over to England to train with a Premier League club is a great opportunity for Craig to get a taste of what it takes to compete at the highest level,” Middleby said.
