Five Newcastle Jets players have been selected in the Socceroos squad for the EAFF East Asian Cup tournament.
Five Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets players have been selected in the Holger Osieck-s Socceroos squad for the EAFF East Asian Cup tournament in Korea Republic starting on Saturday.
Mark Birighitti, Josh Brillante, Craig Goodwin, Adam Taggart and Ruben Zadkovich have all been included in Holger Osieck-s provisional 24-man squad for the tournament against Japan, China PR and Korea Republic.
The squad is comprised of 19 players from the A-League and 5 from Asian-based clubs.
Of all the A-League clubs that had players selected, the Jets are tied with Melbourne Victory for the highest number of the players represented in the squad.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby congratulated the Club-s players on their selection in the Australian squad.
“Mark, Craig and Josh will have the chance to represent their country at senior level for the first time, which is a massive achievement for them,” Middleby said.
“Ruben and Adam have both represented the Socceroos in the past and it is great to see them in the national team set-up once again.
“All the boys will take a lot of positives out of this experience that they-ll be able to bring back to the Jets.
“To have five players selected in this squad is a big compliment for the Jets and it bodes well for the upcoming A-League season.”
The Socceroos will arrive in Seoul on Wednesday evening and will play their first match of the EAFF East Asian Cup against the host nation, the Korea Republic, on Saturday 20 July (kick-off 7:00pm local, 8:00pm AEST). Their second match of the tournament will be against Japan on Thursday 25 July (kick-off 8:00pm local, 9:00pm AEST ) and the final match will be against China PR on Sunday 28 July (kick-off 5:15pm local, 6:15pm AEST).
All matches from the EAFF East Asian Cup will be broadcast live and exclusive on Fox Sports.
