The U20s ran riot in attack, scoring six goals in their Saturday afternoon victory over UNSW
The U20s match against UNSW FC started off pretty evenly split, as both teams fought to take control of the ball. Pretty quickly however, the Jets won this battle, as UNSW were pinned back without the ball for minutes at a time. Despite this, they created the first solid chance of the game, as the right winger was played in behind the jets’ defence. He was unable to direct his shot goalwards, as it hit the side-netting.
Oli Cockle soon opened the scoring for the Jets. Bronson Rolley got on the end of a big switch, beating his man before firing a low cross across the box which Cockle was able to tap into the net. Just minutes later, Cockle almost had a second again, as he nutmegged his defender before shooting from a tight angle. His shot crashed into the post, before Amos Okumu fired over with the rebound.
Billy Eick soon got through the UNSW defence, before being cleaned up by a defender, winning a penalty in the process. Amos Okumu stepped up and smashed it into the corner, sending the keeper the wrong way in the process. His celebration was insane as well, pulling out a cartwheel into a backflip. 2-0 to the U20s inside the first half.
Uni were able to pull one back just before halftime, as they fired a shot from the edge of the box which slid into the bottom corner. The score, 2-1 going into the break. UNSW came out firing in the second half, with Lobach being forced into making multiple saves early on. UNSW’s pressure paid off, as they grabbed a second goal ten minutes into the second half.
Conceding the second goal was a wake-up call for the boys, as they grabbed a quickfire two goals to restore the two goal lead. Murray Peart had an effort tipped onto the bar, only for it to fall to Oli Cockle a metre out from the goal, who headed into the open net for the easiest finish of his life. Less than a minute later, Billy Eick was in behind the UNSW defence, sliding the ball past the keeper to make it 4-2.
Billy Eick grabbed a second soon after, making the score 5-2. Murray Peart was also able to get on the scoresheet, as he reacted quickest to a blocked shot to put the game well out of reach at 6-2. A quality attacking performance for the U20s as they make it three wins from three to start the season.
