The Newcastle Jets can confirm that Daniel Penha will leave the club to take up a contract with a major Asian club still participating in the Asian Champions League.
Penha has been on a loan agreement from his Brazilian Club Atletico Mineiro for the 2021/22 season.
Penha has been a valued team member since joining the Jets direct from his Brazilian Club at the start of last season and played a total of 25 games across all competitions scoring six goals and topping the A-League in assists for the season whilst becoming a fan favourite across the whole country.
At the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season, Penha’s form was rewarded with selection in the A-League All Stars match against Barcelona, a match in which he started.
Penha thanked everyone at the Jets as he sent through an emotional video which can be seen below.
Newcastle Jets Manager Arthur Papas thanked Penha for his time at the Jets.
“Daniel departs the club for an outstanding opportunity that will see him playing in one of Asia’s premier competitions. Although disappointed that he will not be playing for the Jets next season, we completely understand what this opportunity presents for Daniel and his family and can only thank him for representing the Newcastle Jets in a way that had our supporters smiling and on the edge of their seats.”
The Newcastle Jets, on behalf for all our players, staff, members and fans, would like to thank Daniel and his wife Larissa for their time at the club and wish them all the best for the future.
