With only ten rounds remaining in the season, both the Jets and Sky Blues find themselves in a log-jam in the middle of the A-League ladder as a number of sides battle it out for a spot in the top six.

Adding further spice to the match is the third battle of the season between marquee players Emile Heskey and Alessandro Del Piero.

Meanwhile, the return of the Jets- former Golden Boot and Johnny Warren Medal winner Joel Griffiths to face his old club is also sure to be a talking point in the build-up to the clash.

Round 2, season 2012/13
In one of the most highly anticipated regular season matches in A-League history, a crowd of more than 35,000 turned up to Allianz Stadium to watch Heskey and Del Piero go head-to-head for the first time. Both players lived up to the hype, scoring a goal apiece as the Jets triumphed 3-2.

Round 3, season 2005-06
In the first meeting between the two teams, the Jets notched their first ever win in the A-League, defeating Sydney 2-1. Ante Milicic and Richard Johnson scored in the first half to give Newcastle a 2-0 lead, with former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke netting a late consolation goal for the Sky Blues.

Semi-final, season 2006/07
The Jets were trailing 2-0 in the first leg of this semi-final before fan-favourite Milton Rodriguez scored a crucial away goal in the 71st minute of the contest. Joel Griffiths and Vaughan Covney found the back of the net in the return leg to give Jets a 3-2 aggregate win in front of 24,338 fans and ensure Newcastle progressed through to the preliminary final

Round 20, season 2011/12
The Jets shot out to a 3-0 lead thanks to first half goals from former Sydney FC players Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Ruben Zadkovich and Jeremy Brockie. Sydney fought back in the second half to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Jets responded with late goals to Brockie and Ali Abbas sealing a thrilling victory.

Round 16, season 2009/10
The Jets notched a convincing 3-1 win over the Sky Blues at the Sydney Football Stadium largely thanks to a brace from Englishman Michael Bridges. Matt Thompson also scored in the win, with Sydney-s only goal coming courtesy of Alex Brosque.
