“We get enormous pleasure seeing the young football stars down at the match cheering on their local teams,” said Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse.
Hyundai was delighted to lend a helping hand to Cooks Hill United Football Club with the donation of a cheque at the Hyundai A-League Goals for Grassroots game on October 20.
As the selected grassroots team, the club was automatically awarded $1000 with an addition $1000 for each goal scored by the Newcastle Jets during the Hyundai A-League game. This meant Cook Hills won $3000 with the Jets scoring two goals in the F3 Derby.
Goals for Grassroots was initiated by Hyundai Motor Company Australia to support the growth of football in Australia by nurturing the game at its grassroots level. It has been running for five years and it offers support to local clubs across the country by providing funding in the areas they need it the most. Already over $300,000 has been donated to worthy grassroots clubs around Australia.
“We get enormous pleasure seeing the young football stars down at the match cheering on their local teams,” said Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse.
“The future and the heart of the game lies here with the kids, and we are delighted to be able to play a part in encouraging and nurturing the community teams.”
Local and community based clubs can apply for selection and the chance to receive much needed additional funding by completing an on-line application submitting why their club should receive support from the Goals for Grassroots program during Season 8 of the Hyundai A-League.
Applications can be submitted by clicking here. To be eligible, clubs must belong to an association affiliated with the Football Federation Australia (FFA).
