Class was in for Newcastle Jets players when they visited the students at Redhead Public School on Friday afternoon for the last day of school.
Defender Nigel Boogaard and attacking duo Mitch Cooper and Brandon Lundy took a break from their Hyundai A-League preparations to spend some time with the youngsters.
The Jets trio met with kids, posed for photos and fielded questions from the kindergarten to year 6 students on their ‘Footy Fever Day’.
The day had special significance for defender Boogaard. Boogaard attended Redhead Public School from kindergarten to year 3, and used to live 100 metres from the school.
Boogaard was delighted to explain to the kids how different the school was when he kicked a football around the playground as a student! Indeed, the hall where the players presented to the kids used to be a canteen.
Cooper wore a look of embarrassment as Boogaard led the students in singing a Redhead rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to the midfielder to celebrate his 21st birthday!
