Connor Chapman has been welcomed to the Jets with the 17-year-old training with the team this week.
The Newcastle Jets welcomed a new face to training this week, with the arrival of 17-year-old Connor Chapman, who signed a contract with the Club for this season plus two years just before the Christmas break.
This rising star hopes it is a smooth transition to Newcastle and is looking forward to playing again under Gary van Egmond and Arthur Papas, with the two coaches guiding Chapman during his time at the Australian Institute of Sport.
“It is good to be back at training after a break over the Christmas and New Year period,” Chapman said.
Chapman will play with the Jets Youth team but an A-League debut isn’t out of the question this year.
“For the first six months Gary-s going to try and ease me in to the team and he has told me that if I do well there may be a chance for me in the A-League but at the moment I am just focusing on doing my part for the Club,” Chapman added.
Having already played under van Egmond at the AIS, Chapman is hoping he will fit in to the coaches system of play.
“My preferred position is centre back and there is a lot of experience in this team with (Nikolai) Topor-Stanley having played In the A-League for a long time and Tiago (Calvano) having played overseas,” the Australian Joey-s captain said.
“I played against Taylor Regan at the AIS, he is a very good player and I hope I can learn from them and make myself a better player.”
