Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce Blake Archbold has extended his contract with the Club for a further season.

On a Youth contract this year, Archbold has been rewarded with a Scholarship deal for next season.

ā€œIā€™m pretty stoked,ā€ Archbold said.

ā€œIt was an easy decision to make. This was my goal, to re-sign.

ā€œThe mix between younger players and older players is great. The older players are great mentors to me, as are Daniel McBreen and Craig Deans. Iā€™ve known them both for a long time. It was a really easy decision to re-sign.ā€

Archboldā€™s career kicked off with Cessnock United and after being promoted to the Hunter Valley Hawks under-11 representative side, he attracted the attention of Jets’ talent scouts.

It was at the age of 14, he first met Coach Deans.

So, it was only fitting he made his A-League debut under him this season.

ā€œI was coaching the under 14 team when I first saw Blake,ā€ Deans said.

ā€œHe had a good personality and even back then, it was clear he had the drive to be a professional footballer.

ā€œHeā€™s had his share of injuries along the way, but heā€™s shown he has the mental strength to get through three major injuries and come out the other side.

“Heā€™s earned his opportunities through hard work.

ā€œItā€™s a good reward for him and a sign of the Academy Pathway working.ā€

Jets Football Manager, Joel Griffiths added; ā€œHeā€™s a great kid who has come through our system.

ā€œHeā€™s eager to get better, he can play multiple positions and thereā€™s has plenty of up-side to his game.

ā€œWith the right development, he could prove to be a very valuable player for us in the coming years.ā€

The new deal will see the Cessnock product remain in the blue and red for at least the 2021/22 season.
