Arthur Papas extends contract with Newcastle Jets

The Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce the re-signing of Arthur Papas as Manager in a deal which will now run to the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

In his first season at the Club, Papas has been at the forefront of the Jets’ new era and direction, already successfully establishing a revitalised style of play that’s excited fans and pundits across the league, and has admirably assembled and led our Men’s team under very challenging circumstances whilst representing the Newcastle football community.

“Ever since I’ve returned to Newcastle I’ve been made to feel welcomed by the Club and city,” Papas said.

“I am grateful to the board and Executive Chairman Shane Mattiske for their recognition of the hard work and dedication since joining.

“It is clear we have made progress over the past 10 months from our initial starting point and yet are well aware that there remains much room for growth. I’ve been clear since day one that I believe the Newcastle Jets have the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in the country and will keep working hard to achieve that.

“This contract extension hopefully provides the certainty required as we move forward together.”

As we near the end of Papas’ first season in charge at the Jets, Executive Chairman Shane Mattiske believes the contract extension would provide an important foundation to build the Club’s exciting future upon.

“Arthur’s presence and leadership has delivered a very significant step forward for the Club this season – both in his dedication and contribution to the Men’s A-League team but also the Club as a whole,” Mattiske said.

“We now have a very competitive team which plays with a spirit that aligns with this community.”

“Looking forward, we have real confidence that with Arthur confirmed as our coach for the next two seasons, we are building a team that can compete with the very best and bring real success and pride to this Club and this community.”
