ALM Match Report: Jets record crucial away win

The Newcastle Jets have recorded a crucial 3-1 win on the road in the New Zealand capital thnaks to goals from Eli Adams, Lachlan Rose and Clayton Taylor.

The Jets were dealt with an early blow inside the first five minutes when midfielder Max Burgess had to be substituted due to a groin injury. Burgess was replaced by Eli Adams.

Newcastle goalkeeper James Delianov made a smart stop from Phoenix defender Corban Piper.

Adams had a golden chance to put the Jets in front when Daniel Wilmering played a ball across goal for Adams who saw his shot shave the post and go wide.

Adams had another golden chance whe Alex Badolato squared the ball to the Jets substitute only for his shot to be blocked by Phoenix defender Jayden Smith just minutes later.

The first half ended 0-0 however both sides were left wondering how they didn’t manage to score.

Delianov was called into action early in the second half, making a smart reaction save from Wellington defender Xuan Loke.

Mark Milligan’s side eventually found the opener when Eli Adams finished off a brilliant counter attack to make it 0-1 in the 49th minute.

Lachlan Rose added a second five minutes later when he rounded Wellington goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi to make it 0-2.

The Jets weren’t finished and a brilliant combination between Daniel Wilmering and Clayton Taylor saw the later make it 0-3 on the 57th minute mark.

Wellington pulled a goal back when Ifeanyi Eze saw his well placed header find the back of the net to make it 1-3 on the 69th minute.

The Jets held firm to collect all three points.
