Alex Nunes signs scholarship deal

The Newcastle Jets are pleased to confirm that talented local Alex Nunes has signed a two-year scholarship deal.

17-year-old Nunes, who plays as an attacking midfielder has been a standout for the Youth Team under coach Damian Zane this season. Nunes who plays as an attacking midfielder and forward has been with the Jets Academy since the age of nine years old. Prior to joining the Jets, Nunes played his junior football in the Northern Territory with Litchfield Football Club.

Newcastle Jets Coach Rob Stanton said.

“Alex is a highly talented creative footballer who has spent time training with the first team last season. He has progressed well, and I’ve monitored his performances with the Youth Team this season and he’s ready to make the next step into a full-time A-League environment. It’s now up to him to apply himself and develop further.”

Nunes couldn’t hide his excitement.

“It’s such an unbelievable feeling signing my first contract with the Club I’ve been with since I was nine years old. This is hopefully the first step in what I hope is a long football career. I’ve always dreamed of putting the Jets jersey on and playing in front of the fans at McDonald Jones Stadium.”
