Newcastle Jets can confirm the departure of Assistant Coach, Darren Bazeley, who leaves to take up a role with New Zealand Football.
Bazeley, whose family is based in New Zealand, will take the role of New Zealand U/20 Head Coach and Assistant Coach to the Olympics side and the All Whites.
He arrived in Newcastle in July and played a big part in helping to guide the side to three wins and a draw to finish the season undefeated.
Bazeley paid tribute to Newcastle, thanking everyone for their support during his time at the Jets.
“I loved my time working at the Club and getting to know players and staff, it’s a shame that it was only for such a short period of time during a time where fans weren’t really allowed in,” Bazeley said.
“Given the circumstances with travel restrictions internationally, it’ll allow me to be closer to my family here in New Zealand which Robbo [Carl Robinson] and Lawrie [McKinna] were very understanding about.
“I think the Club has a good future with Carl at the helm and things are headed in the right direction, and I look forward to watching and supporting the boys in the coming season.”
Head Coach, Carl Robinson wished Bazeley well in the next chapter in his career.
“Baze has made this decision to be with his family in New Zealand, due to the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing issues regarding COVID-19 and travel restrictions,” Robinson said.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to continue his development as a coach and while we’re disappointed to lose him, everyone at the Club wishes him the very best in New Zealand.”
