Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce that that club will host the first ever fully-fledged Hyundai A-League fixture in Coffs Harbour in January 2017.

In partnership with Coffs Harbour City Council, Northern New South Wales Football (NNSWF) and North Coast Football the Jets will welcome Melbourne City to the popular North Coast tourist destination in round 17 of the A-League’s 12th season.

Since the A-League’s inception in 2005 many clubs – including the Jets – have held pre-season camps and friendly fixtures in Coffs Harbour, taking advantage of the region’s comfortable climate and fantastic facilities.

However now for the first time football fans in the city and right up the North Coast and inland can mark Friday 27 January 2017 on their calendars as the day that A-League football will truly arrive at their doorstep.

Newcastle Jets interim Chief Executive Officer Mr David Eland, who is also CEO at NNSWF, said that the club is thrilled to have the opportunity to host an A-League match at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.

“Newcastle Jets are committed to engaging with club Members and football supporters right throughout Northern New South Wales,” Eland explained. “And there is simply no better way to excite people about the A-League and spread our club’s message than by holding a game in their region.”

“It’s important that we recognise the parties that have helped us make this match possible, especially Coffs Harbour City Council. Their vision and support will enable the team to spend up to four days in Coffs Harbour prior to what will be a high-profile Friday night fixture against Melbourne City just after Australia Day.”

“Entry to round 17 at C.ex Coffs International Stadium is included in 2016/17 Jets Membership packages, and the club will endeavour to work with relevant stakeholders and suppliers to provide travel and transport deals for Jets Members keen to make the 400 kilometre journey north from the Newcastle area for the match,” he said.

Coffs Harbour City Council Mayor, Cr Denise Knight, is ecstatic that her city has been able to secure an important A-League game.

“We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the Newcastle Jets, FFA and other partners to deliver an A-League fixture for the residents of and visitors to the Coffs Coast,” Cr Knight said.

“Hosting an elite football event solidifies the position of the Coffs Coast as a premier regional destination for sporting events.”

“C.ex Coffs International Stadium will provide a perfect venue to host this televised match thanks to our digital broadcast lighting.”

“We look forward to welcoming the Jets and Melbourne City, as well as both club’s Members and supporters to beautiful Coffs Harbour in early 2017,” she concluded.
