Newcastle Jets would like to thank Dimi Petratos for his service to the Club after his move to join Saudi Arabian side, Al-Wehda, was finalised.
One of the league’s stars since his signing with Newcastle in 2017, Petratos quickly established himself as a fan favourite among Jets fans.
During his three seasons at the Club, the attacking midfielder made his Australia debut amid 79 appearances and 22 goals in the Hyundai A-League for the Jets. He’ll depart Newcastle as the Club’s third-highest all-time goalscorer.
He also swept the Club’s Awards Night at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, claiming a share of the Golden Boot, Hyundai A-League Player of the Year, Members Player of the Year, and the Ray Baartz Medal.
Petratos said that the move to Saudi Arabia will allow him to test and challenge himself on another stage, and he was thankful for his time in Newcastle.
“I’ve made many special memories at the Jets, and I’ve grown a lot as a footballer since I arrived at the Club three years ago,” Petratos said.
“I want to thank this opportunity to thank everyone at the Newcastle Jets: teammates past and present, and everyone in the coaching and football staff, and Club administration.
“Also, I want to thank the fans for their support throughout my time in Newcastle.
“The Club is in great hands under Carl, Kenny, and Darren, and I wish everyone at the Newcastle Jets the very best in the future.
“Thank you, for all of the moments and the special memories.”
Newcastle Jets CEO, Lawrie McKinna paid tribute to Petratos and wished him all the best.
“Dimi has consistently been a fantastic ambassador for us both on and off the pitch, and he’s had a big impact on the Newcastle Jets during his time here,” McKinna said.
“We’re excited to see him make the most of this opportunity overseas. Dimi goes with our full blessing, and we wish him every success in this next chapter of his career.”
