The Newcastle Jets have set an all-time Membership record as the club surpasses the mark previously set in the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season.

The current figure – 11,320 – surpasses the mark that was targeted by Jets CEO, Lawrie McKinna at the start of the 2018/19 pre-season.

This latest milestone represents another step forward for the Hunter-based football club, which has made huge strides under the ownership of Martin Lee.

Last year, the Club finished with 9,200 Members off the back of a whirlwind season on the park, which also featured plenty of work off it.

Under the guidance of McKinna, the Club has placed a real focus on community engagement with players highly visible across the Hunter at local clubs, clinics, events and fundraisers.

“The stuff the players from each of our squads are doing in the community is a different class,” McKinna said.

“For everyone from the players, staff, sponsors and community to buy into what we’re doing has been so important in reaching this milestone – we want to be a community club and we want to keep engaging with our fans.

“We set a target of just over 11,300 and we’re well over that just seven weeks into the season, we’ve had outstanding support from our Members and fans.

“A lot of people probably thought that the target [11,300] was a bridge too far, but the whole town has got behind the team and we’re so thankful for that.

“I’m just very proud to be a small part in making this happen, and huge credit must go to everyone involved.”
