Andre Gumprecht starts a new career in coaching.
Facing Andre Gumprecht during his time with the Central Coast Mariners would have been a tough feat for his opposition and the ex A-League star-s coaching skills follow a similar passionate direction.
But today the intimidating footballer turned coach showed a softer side during the launch of the Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets .
Assistant Coach Gumprecht walked into today-s launch full of pride and confidence, eagerly asking where he could place his ‘launch cake- before quickly exiting and returning with the cake under wraps.
Displaying true MasterChef potential (or at least his wife-s), Gumprecht impressed the players as they caught a glimpse of the cake and couldn-t wait to unveil the creation to the awaiting media at the conclusion of the press conference.
Enlisting the help of three others to carry the table across the floor to place the cake in the centre of the room, all eyes including those of Lady Mayoress Cathy Tate, along with Maitland Mayor, Peter Blackmore and his wife Robyn, were on the handiwork of Gumprecht-s wife.
The honours of cutting into the huge cake complete with a football field topped with a ball and the Newcastle Jets logo were given to Hayley Crawford who today was announced as the Team Captain ahead of Monday-s Round 1 match against Adelaide.
No one left the room without tasting a slice, and while everybody was delighted by the taste and going back for more, it is lucky that the players have until Monday to work it off before their first game for 2009!
