Former Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets player, Emily van Egmond, returned to Newcastle yesterday to face the side with which she played out the inaugural season of the Westfield W-League.
Emily now plays for Canberra United, the team that took the Jets out of contention for a place in the Season 1 Grand Final after a 1-0 Semi Final victory.
Northern NSW Football, who manage the Jets side, took the opportunity to welcome Emily back to Newcastle and present her with a framed photograph used to promote women-s football during her time in the region.
Emily was happy to be back in Newcastle to see her former teammates again and was humbled by the gift.
Northern NSW Football Marketing and Communications Manager, David Cromarty, was pleased to present the bright young star with a memento of recognition of her contribution to women-s football.
“Northern NSW Football is delighted to award Emily with a symbol of our thanks of her involvement in the promotion of the game. She is a fantastic role model for young girls looking to pursue a career in football,” he said.
Tara Andrews, also a member of the Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets side, has been appointed to new female marquee player by Northern NSW Football following Emily-s move to Canberra.
