An early strike by Mario Simic was cancelled out initially by Matthew Jurman, but Newcastle hit back in the second half with a superb strike by Jason Naidovski before an own goal sealed the win for the visitors.
The Jets got off to a dream start when Simic pushed forward in the 1st minute and tapped home a Will Angel low cross from the byline.
Indeed, the visitors dominated the opening period and nearly doubled their lead through midfielder Jesse Pinto, who hit a stinging low drive from 25-yards in the 14th minute only to be denied by a brilliant fingertip save by Sky Blues custodian Nenad Vekic.
However, it would be the home side that would score next on 32 minutes through central defender Jurman, who pounced on a fumble by goalkeeper Robbie Kolak to tap home the equaliser.
Moments later and Vekic was in the thick of the action again, this time making a superb double save from Mirjan Pavlovic and Naidovski strikes from close range to keep the scores level heading into the break.
It didn-t take long for the Jets to regain the lead though, with Naidovski scoring from a low, curling free-kick just ten minutes into the second stanza.
Newcastle then made the three competition points safe midway through the half when Naidovski hit a dangerous cross into the Sydney 6-yard box which was deflected in to give the Jets a 3-1 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the match.
