One of the Jets’ most recent signings, Jeremy Brockie, has been selected in New Zealand’s World Cup squad.
Newcastle Jets new recruit, Jeremy Brockie, has today been named in New Zealand-s 23-man squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa next month.
Brockie, 22, signed a two-year deal with the Hunter-based club in April following a standout season with Hyundai A-League newcomers North Queensland Fury, and will make his way to football-s showpiece event alongside fellow Kiwi-s such as Blackburn Rovers- skipper Ryan Nelson and Chris Killen of Middlesbrough.
Today, Jets CEO John Tsatsimas praised the dynamic attacking midfielder on his selection for the 32-nation tournament, which is predicted to have a cumulative audience of 26 billion viewers.
“Obviously everyone at the club is thrilled for Jeremy and we are delighted that one of our new signings will be taking part in South Africa,” he said.
“It-s a huge honour for any player to be selected to represent their country, but surely there is no greater stage for a footballer to do so than at the World Cup.”
“For Jeremy specifically, this is the reward for plenty of hard work and determination, particularly to overcome his recent leg injury, and the club extends its sincere congratulations to the young man on the realisation of this dream,” Mr. Tsatsimas added.
New Zealand has been drawn in Group F of the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Italy, Paraguay and Slovakia, and will prepare for the tournament with friendlies against Slovenia, Serbia and Australia in coming weeks.
