Newcastle Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse had surgery to remove a bursa from the outside of his left foot this week.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse is hopeful of returning to full-training in a month-s time after having surgery to remove a bursa from the outside of his left foot this week.
The injury hampered Wheelhouse towards the back-end of last season, forcing him to play with pain-killing injections.
“The doctor said everything went to plan,” Wheelhouse said.
“I got out of hospital this morning and he came in and told me the surgery went well.
“I see the doctor again in about 10 or 12 days time and he-ll take the suture out and remove the boot.
“I-m just going to be sore for a fortnight or so. I-ll be off my feet for a week and then I-ll be back in doing light duties after that.
The 27-year-old said he is aiming to return to full training with his teammates in around four weeks- time.
“The doctor seemed to think I could be back to full training in around a month, but that, I guess, is the best case scenario. Four to six weeks was the prognosis before the surgery,” he said.
“Because of where the cut is right on the sole of my foot it-s going to be quite hard to get back into training or any weight-bearing stuff straight away.
“It all just depends on how the scar heals.”
After being forced to cut a hole in one of his playing boots last season to help alleviate some of the discomfort of the injury, Wheelhouse said he was looking forward to being able to play pain-free during the 2012/13 season.
“To say the least, it was a bit of a pain in the butt last year,” he explained.
“I think it was about two-thirds of the season I was playing with the injections for the games, obviously with a modified boot and pain-killers through the week and stuff like that.
“It wasn-t an ideal situation but I got through as many games as I could.”
