Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski believes there are still a number of positives to take out of the Jets’ 2-0 loss to Adelaide.
It may not have been the start to the season they were after, but Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski believes there are still a number of positives to take out of the Jets- 2-0 loss to Adelaide on Sunday.
Kantarovski said the way the Jets responded to the shock of conceding a goal inside the first minute of their 2012/13 A-League campaign was reason for encouragement.
“It was a bit disappointing to concede a goal early in the game, but I think we worked back from it, keeping it 1-0 at halftime and I think we actually dominated a little bit in the first half as well,” he said.
“Even in the second half we started well, but it was just disappointing to lose Mark (Birighitti) and that really put a nail in our coffin so to speak.”
However, the 20-year-old former Olyroos captain said the Jets had to be more effective and clinical when in possession of the ball.
“I think it-s a matter of actually doing something with the ball. I think there were times where we kept the ball in our own half and then slowly progressed to their half.
“At the end of the day it-s about making sure we get a result out of having that much ball.”
Kanatrovski said the controversial sending off of Jets goalkeeper Mark Birghitti had left the Jets fighting an uphill battle, but their efforts for the remainder of the match were admirable.
“It was quite difficult but I actually think we did quite well and dominated for a period of time there as well,” he said.
“We always knew we had that possibility of getting countered with that much space in behind us, but we-ve been working on making sure we can minimise that and make it less of a chance of happening.”
