The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets are pleased to confirm the official re-signing of marquee striker Emile Heskey for the 2013/14 season.

The former England international made 23 appearances for the Jets in 2012/13 and finished the season as the Club-s leading goal scorer with a personal haul of nine goals.

Heskey-s arrival coincided with the Jets reaching 11,000 Members, the highest in the Club-s history.

The ex-Liverpool striker capped off a stellar debut season in the A-League by being named as one of the finalists for the Jets- Player of the Year award.

“I-m pleased to be extending my stay in Newcastle for another year,” Heskey said.

“Everyone has made me feel very welcome here and I-ve really enjoyed my first season playing for the Jets.

“I-m looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt and helping the team push for a finals place next season.”

Jets head coach Gary van Egmond said he was delighted to have secured the services of Heskey for another year.

“It-s great to have Emile here for another season,” van Egmond said.

“He brings a wealth of experience to our squad with everything he-s achieved in his career.

“His performances in his first season with us were excellent and we-re looking forward to seeing more of the same from him next year.”

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said Heskey-s decision to re-sign with the Jets was a coup for the Club.

“The impact Emile has made at the Jets both on and off the field since he arrived in Newcastle cannot be overstated,” Middleby said.

“To have him sign on for another season shows he believes in what we-re doing at the Jets and it-s a massive compliment to the Club.

“It will be great for the development of some of our younger players to be able to learn from a footballer of Emile-s stature for another season.”
