Jets Youth take on the second-placed Weston Workers Bears FC at Rockwell Automation Park on Saturday.
The Newcastle Jets Youth team face a tough challenge when they take on the second-placed Weston Workers Bears FC in Round 11 of the NBN State League at Rockwell Automation Park on Saturday.
The Jets will take confidence into the match after notching a 7-2 win over Valentine FC at Cahill Oval last week.
Jets coach Craig Deans said it was important the Jets backed up that performance this weekend against Weston.
“We changed the system the week before and struggled a little bit with adapting to it, but I think on the weekend it worked really well,” Deans said.
“It gives the players some belief they-re on the right track.
“I said to them straight after the game they need to make sure they don-t have a repeat of the Lake Macquarie performance a couple of weeks ago.
“We had a good win and good performance against Charlestown and then backed it up with a pretty ordinary effort against Lake Macquaire a week later.
“They need to make sure they learn to play at a consistent level from week-to-week and be a little bit more ruthless with their performances.”
Weston have only suffered one defeat all season and currently sit just a point behind competition leaders Broadmeadow.
Deans said he is expecting his side to be pushed to their limits against the Bears.
“They-re in second place at the moment so obviously they-ve had a very strong start to the season and will present a very tough challenge for us on Saturday,” Deans said.
“It-s up to us to put them under as much pressure as we can, but I think the most important thing for us is just to focus on ourselves.
“We need to make sure we do things properly from our own perspective.
“We have to be mindful and respectful of the fact they-re a very good opposition and if we-re not switched on we-ll get punished.”
