The Squadron has added a chant to their repertoire that allows all Jets supporters to contribute to the atmosphere.
Every Newcastle Jets supporter has the chance to contribute to what is expected to be an electric atmosphere at Hunter Stadium for Saturday-s clash with Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Squadron has added a call and response chant to their repertoire that allows all Jets supporters to get involved in active support and contribute to the match day atmosphere, no matter where they sit within Hunter Stadium.
The concept is simple. The Squadron leads the chant by asking “WHO ARE WE?” to which the rest of the crowd responds “NEWCASTLE”.
Squadron President Grant Furner is hopeful the chant will catch on quickly amongst his fellow Novocastrians and become a regular feature at Newcastle Jets home matches.
“We-ve been getting some good feedback from other Jets supporters telling us they-ve been really impressed with how the call and response chant is coming along within the Squadron,” Furner explained.
“The aim now is to try and spread it throughout the whole stadium and get every Jets supporter at the game involved.
“Up until now we-ve only really been able to get the Eastern Grandstand and Southern Hill into it, but hopefully we can spread it across to the Western Grandstand.”
With the Jets- biggest home crowd of the season expected on Saturday, Furner said the clash with the Wanderers was the perfect opportunity to try and grow the chant.
“There-s no better time to do it than with 18,000 to 20,000 people in the stadium,” Furner said.
“Chant sheets will be handed out to supporters in the Western Grandstand to try and spread the word a bit more and a big game like this is the best situation to try and get people involved.
“The more people that get involved, the better the atmosphere will be and that can only help the boys out on the pitch as well, which is obviously our main objective.”
