Newcastle Jets W-League captain, Ariane Hingst answers all the hard-hitting questions about the team-s loss to Canberra.

Question: It was always going to be a tough ask for the team to travel to Canberra and face an undefeated team, how is the team feeling about their performance?

Hingst: You could really tell that Canberra had a lot of confidence having won all four of their games this season and we were still a bit unsure after our tough loss to Sydney last week. We all know that we didn’t put in our best performance over the whole 90 minutes. They played with a lot discipline and had a really good game plan, which worked in their favour. Our biggest problem was possession; as soon as we won the ball we gave it right back to them, in saying that Canberra really deserved the win.

Question: After two losses in a row, how will the team bounce back?

Hingst: Obviously we can’t live in the past and the team needs to look forward. It is essential that we do well during our upcoming games and prove to everyone that we are a team of good character who can fight back and win but it is going to be tough. We need to respect all our opponents and not underestimate anyone, even if on paper we are the better team.

Question: How are you coping with the hot weather experienced in the last couple of weeks?

Hingst: I’m actually doing really fine with the weather now. It took some time for me to acclimatise but I prefer hot weather to cold so I am feeling really good. I don’t think I struggle with the heat more than anyone else here and I love summer!

Question: What do you think the biggest challenge facing this team is?

Hingst: Even though we are a really young team we can’t use this as an excuse. All the girls need to bring their personalities to our games because that will make us strong. We have to learn from our mistakes and hold our heads up high now and move forward and really believe in ourselves again.

Question: Besides the loss how was the trip to Canberra and did you get a chance to see the sights?

Hingst: We had quite a long bus ride on Friday so it was good to get a training session in, the evening before our game. The facilities at the AIS were excellent. It was my first time back to Canberra since the 2000 Olympics but unfortunately there was no time for sightseeing. We had a short walk on Saturday morning so I could at least catch a look at the stadium that we played in when we took on Australia during the Olympics.
