W-League: Crummer to miss 2019/20 season

Newcastle Jets can confirm that Westfield Matildas representative, Larissa Crummer, will miss the entirety of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season.

The striker-turned-defender sustained a badly broken leg in January’s clash with Adelaide United and complications post-surgery pushed the recovery timeline further back than first anticipated.

This means that instead of a return this season as was first hoped, Crummer will be unable to take part throughout the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking with newcastlejets.com.au, Larissa Crummer said the decision was the right one.

“I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to get out there with the girls this season, but it’s going to be best for my body in the long run,” Crummer said.

“There was a chance that I’d be able to get back on the pitch at the back end of this season but it would have been tight and the risk wasn’t worth it.

“I’ll be staying in Newcastle to focus on my recovery and make sure I’m in top shape for next season in Jets colours.”

Westfield W-League Head Coach, Craig Deans said while he was disappointed to not have Crummer at his disposal, the decision not to play this season was the right one.

“Obviously the injury was a pretty horrific one and we have to make sure that Larissa’s body is back at 100% before we consider getting her back out on the pitch,” Deans said.

“She’s an important part of the squad behind the scenes, and she’ll continue to be around the group and a part of things while she continues her recovery.”
