Dominik Ritter says he can’t wait to play his first A-League match for the Jets against Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets defender Dominik Ritter says he can-t wait to play his first A-League match for the Jets against Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.

Round 1 will be the first time that Ritter sets foot on the Hunter Stadium turf for a competitive match and the former Swiss Under 21 player says he is looking forward to the experience.

“I-m feeling very good. The body and everything is going good. We-ve trained well and everyone can-t wait for the start of the season,” he said.

“The two training sessions at the stadium were very good, the pitch is very good and it is a big pitch. Even the changing rooms and everything in the stadium is good.”

Ritter has called the Club-s Members and supporters to turn up in big numbers and help the Jets get their season off to the ideal start.

“Hopefully there-s a big crowd to support us,” he said.

“It-s important for us that all the Members and supporters get behind us and give us a lot of spirit to play and I-m looking forward to a big crowd on Sunday.”

Ritter said the Jets are in peak physical condition ahead of the match and he believes their fitness will be a big asset throughout the season.

“We-ve done a lot of physical work and conditioning so I think from the conditional aspect we are ready for the season,” he said.

“Also with our football and all the technical stuff we are ready.

“When you want to play a pressing game, everybody has to sprint and everybody has to work together.

“If you-re not fit, you can-t do it over 90 minutes, that-s why it-s very important that we-re fit and I think that we are.”

Ritter admitted he doesn-t know a great deal about the Adelaide squad, but said he would take a closer look at the Jets- first opponents closer to match day.

“Some of the boys have told me what kind of players Adelaide have in different positions,” he said.

“We-ll look at some games they-ve played, how they attack and how they defend so we are prepared well.”
