NEWS: 5 reasons to get to RAAF Match

From the pre-match F/A-18 Hornet fly-over to the chance to be the first Club to silence Sydney FC this season, here are our top five reasons to get to this weekend’s Hyundai A-League round 4 blockbuster at McDonald Jones Stadium!

1. Help us send Sydney home sullen!
Unfortunately recent results in games between the Jets and Sydney FC don’t make good reading for Newcastle. There’s no point shying away from the fact that the Sky Blues are unbeaten against the Jets in the last ten meetings between the two Clubs. Instead, our squad intends to embrace the challenge before them, and become the team that turns the tide in terms of results between the two sides. A big, vociferous crowd at McDonald Jones Stadium will help energise our players and push them that little bit closer to victory! Kick-off is at 5:35pm.

2. Secure a piece of Newcastle Jets history!
Saturday’s game is RAAF Match, which means our limited edition, one-off RAAF jersey for 2016 will be for sale. Hit the Western Merchandise Outlet from Gates Open (4:35pm) on Saturday to ensure you’re one of the people who secures a piece of Club memorabilia. The jerseys are also available before the game from Everything Football in Kotara.

3. Hear the roar of the F/A-18’s in the sky!
Last year an utterly epic atmosphere was created last year when three F/A-18 Hornets flew over McDonald Jones Stadium not once, but twice, before kick-off. The same will be happening again this year, creating one of the most unique spectacles on the Australian sporting calendar. Get your phone out and film the fly-over, or snap a shot of the planes shooting through the sky! Then share them on social media using #NEWvSYD to share the excitement!

4. Saturday afternoon kick-off!
Newcastle Jets will host just three Saturday games at McDonald Jones Stadium this Hyundai A-League season, with the others coming in round 19 against Melbourne Victory in round 19 and Western Sydney Wanderers in round 25. While those matches will be huge occasions, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a massive Jets home game with your family and friends knowing that you don’t have to get up for work or school the next day!

5. Support RAAF Base Williamtown!
Did you know that RAAF Base Williamtown has over 2,000 families living in Newcastle and Hunter Valley community? Or that it is Australia’s main fighter pilot training base, employing over 3,500 military personnel, civilians and contractors and investing over $280 million in annual salaries? RAAF Base Williamtown helps our community in many ways, and is also a crucial cog in keeping Australia safe from attack. Join us in showing respect to the RAAF!
