Match Report: Late Show For Youth Team Secures Vital Three Points

Late goals from Dallo Sandy and Archie Brideson secured a vital win over Hills United for our Men’s Youth Team in the FNSW League One Competiton.

The first chance of the game fell to Hills United, as they lashed a ball across the box, forcing Jordan Baylis to bat the ball away to the edge of the box. Oliver Cockle had the next chance, sneaking through the offside trap, but his effort from an angle was comfortably pushed out for a throw-in by the Hills keeper.

Sepping had a golden opportunity to open the scoring for Hills, as he found himself unmarked inside the box. He shot from the cut-back at the first time, but got his effort all wrong as he cleared the crossbar by some margin. Alex Nunes drove through the midfield, beating two players before firing from the edge of the box, but Wood was able to get down quickly and hold Nunes’s shot.

Hills would finally be rewarded for their perseverance, as Moutaouakkil produced a stunning solo run to set up Satori for a tap-in, giving them the lead just before halftime. Makye Buettner replaced Cory Everett at halftime

Ethan Debono came racing out of the blocks in the second half, latching onto the end of an Nkomo pass before beating his full back and cutting the ball back across the box to Oliver Cockle. Oliver squeezed out a shot which was blocked, before Jesse Hill dragged his effort wide of the mark.

Debono again had another opportunity, this time driving through the middle of the park before unleashing a powerful low strike which was palmed wide by Ryan Wood. Moutaouakkil came closest to adding a second for Hills. His effort from distance look destined for the top corner, before it cannoned off of the crossbar and into the grateful hands of Jordan Baylis.

Chris Zoricich went back to his bench for a quadruple sub in the 63rd minute. Meliwethu Nkomo, Jesse Hill, Oliver Cockle and Nicholas Badolato all exited thee match, being replaced by Luca West, Archue Brideson, Callan Prestwidge and Noah Peacock.

Zoricich’s substitutions paid off, as Noah Peacock created an equaliser for Dallo Sandy. He latched onto a searching long ball, before turning and finding Sandy, who took one touch before smashing his effort into the back of the net.

Archie Brideson, also fresh off the bench, scored the winner just minutes later. Alex Nunes took aim from outside the box, but his shot was blocked. Nunes received the loose ball, before shifting it out wide to Buettner. Makye Buettner delivered an inch perfect cross to the front stick, finding an open Archie Brideson, who side-foot volleyed his effort into the back of the net, leaving Wood rooted to the spot.

Hills pushed hard to find an equaliser, but the Jets Youth defence held firm, sealing their third win of the season. The result see’s the Jets Youth sitting in 7th place, after three wins, five draws and two losses in their opening ten fixtures. Their next game is this Saturday against Rydalmere Lions at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, kicking off at 5pm.
