The Newcastle Jets fought hard to get back in the game on Saturday, and were rewarded with a 1-all draw.

With Perth Glory getting off to an early lead on Saturday night, the Newcastle Jets fought hard to get back in the game, and were rewarded with a 1-all draw.

While disappointed not to secure the three points against a 10-man team, Gary van Egmond said he is happy the Jets were able to come back after the disappointment of a 5-2 loss against Wellington the week before.

“They were down to ten men and we should of taken advantage of that but we panicked and didn-t stick to our game plan,” the coach said.

“It was good to see the players get something out of the game and they worked hard for each other but we can definitely play a lot better than that.”

One player who impressed the coach during Saturday-s game was Newcastle-born Taylor Regan.

“It was long overdue for Taylor to start and he came in and did really well,” van Egmond said.

“His organisational skills and covering as well as pace out the back were sorely needed tonight and it was unfortunate that he suffered a cramp and we had to take him off.”

With the Jets scheduled to play at home again this Wednesday night against Gold Coast United, Regan believes the draw against Perth makes a win on Wednesday night even more vital.

“In four days time we have the chance to turn it around and tonight just made Wednesday-s game against Gold Coast even more important.”
