Jets have come away from their trip to Adelaide with their first away point.

The Newcastle Jets have come away from their trip to Adelaide with their first away point whilst the Jets Youth team returned home with 3-points, after defeating Adelaide 5-nil.

Coach Gary van Egmond and Assistant Coach Craig Deans remained in Adelaide for the Youth game and were impressed with what they saw.

“I think we struggled in the front third in the A-League on the weekend,” van Egmond said.

“Ali Abbas was one that stood out in the Youth game and he could add some creativity up front this week, but we will have to wait and see what our squad will be as the week goes on.”

Replacing an injured Ben Kennedy, reserve goalkeeper Matthew Nash did a great job keeping Adelaide out on Friday night and will push to keep the starting spot.

“Nashy did really well and a clean sheet away from home is a great result,” van Egmond added.

“There were a couple of times where he came out and didn-t need to but that is due to him not having as many games until this point.”

With Melbourne Victory travelling to Newcastle this weekend, everyone is hoping to see the Michael Bridges go head to head with his former teammate and friend Harry Kewell.

“Bridgey is getting closer and closer,” the coach said.

“He has missed a lot of football and needs to have some consistency where training is concerned.

“He has only played one game in the last six to seven months which is a long time out of football.

“We didn-t want him to travel to Adelaide and we will wait and see how this week pan out before making a decision but it would be great to see Bridgey verse Kewell.”

This week the Jets will welcome back Ben Kantarovski who was unavailable for Friday-s game due to Australian duties and van Egmond is hopeful Marko Jesic will be back in contention after recovering from an infection.
