The Jets have their sights firmly set on their week 18 game against Sydney FC.

After a well-deserved day off on Monday, the Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets returned to training on Tuesday with their sights firmly set on their Week 18 game against Sydney FC on Sunday afternoon, where they hope to secure their second away win of the season and continue to climb the competition ladder.

“It will be nice to have an extended build up this week and gives us a chance to look closely at Sydney and what we need to do to beat them,” assistant coach Craig Deans said.

“It is a really tough trip but we have some confidence with two games undefeated and a good away performance.

“Everyone is fit and you could see at training today how competitive our players are and it is a good situation to be in.”

With the team recovering well from playing three games within nine days, Gary van Egmond is not expected to make many changes to this week-s line-up but the team will be without Ben Kantarovski, who is currently overseas representing the Australian U23-s.

“Originally when we knew Kantarovski was going away we were a bit concerned but young Jacob Pepper has come into the team in the last month and he has gone and done what we weren-t expecting him to do so quickly,” he said.

“Pep can slot in to Kantarovski-s spot and Jobey (Wheelhouse) has come back from his foot injury and he can play in there as well.

“It is not ideal to lose a player but it is only one player and we need to be good enough to deal with that and play the way we want to play.”
