Taylor Regan and Jeremy Brockie spent time with young participants of the Street Soccer program.
With the help of Men of Football, the Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets threw their support behind Street Soccer, a program which uses sport as a mechanism to engage homeless and marginalised people and promote social inclusion.
Big Issues, Street Soccer program is held every Tuesday afternoon at the PCYC Newcastle and involves males and females 16 years and above, who get together to train and play matches.
Players Taylor Regan and Jeremy Brockie as well as former Australian representative and Jets Recruitment Manager, David Lowe went along to last week-s session and helped well-known Newcastle soccer identity, Jim McBreen hand out jersey-s he collected during his time over in the World Cup.
After witnessing McBreen-s generosity, Bill Pryce of the Men of Football said they were looking at starting a program, which will see past, football players donate old boots and kits they have laying around to the participants of this program.
“The young participants of this program have different problems and when the players turned up the smiles of their faces was gold,” Price said.
“The best part was when Taylor and Jeremy took the time to answer questions about playing professional soccer and David spoke about his experiences playing for Australia, and Jeremy about his experiences at the World Cup.”
