Roar coach Ange Postecoglou thinks the Jets will be in the mix this season.

More than 13,000 Members and supporters attended the Newcastle Jets game against reigning champions the Brisbane Roar on Saturday night at Ausgrid Stadium and witnessed an entertaining game of football.

With a perfect home game record and 1-nil lead at half time, the Jets were looking in great shape to upset Roar.

Demonstrating exactly why they have now equalled Australian club sports unbeaten record of 36 games, Roar came back in the second half to put two goals on the Jets and snatch a 2-1 victory.

“After the first goal was scored we created a few more chances and maybe if we took one of our chances after the break, it may have given us the impetus to keep going,” van Egmond said.

“Unfortunately it wasn-t to be.”

Despite the disappointment of the loss, van Egmond was very happy with how hard the team worked on Saturday afternoon.

“The whole team worked extremely hard, there was not one person you could single out,” he said.

“Where we have to get better is to get ourselves in to positions and start looking at ways to open up, keep possession and build play.

“We were probably a little bit direct for my liking, especially in the second half, but that was due to the pressure that Brisbane put on us and where we are as far as our fitness is concerned but that will only get better”

One person quick to praise the Jets performance was Roar coach Ange Postecoglou who has no doubt the Jets will be in the mix when it comes down to the business end of the season.

“Not many teams are going to get a result here, they have a fantastic crowd and they really get behind their team,” Postecoglou explained.

“The Jets like playing at this ground and opposition teams don-t like playing here.

“I think they will be right up there and are not far off it at the moment.”
