The Jets 3-1 win was a great reward for all the hard work the team has been putting in on the training paddock.
The Newcastle Jets put on a spectacular show and defeated Melbourne Victory in front of nearly 18,000 people at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday night.
Coach Gary van Egmond said the 3-1 win over Harry Kewell-s Victory was a great reward for all the hard work the team has been putting in on the training paddock.
“The resilience the boys showed and their effectiveness in the front third was very pleasing,” van Egmond said.
“We have been playing quite well for a month and it was good to see the character of the boys.
“The boys truly believe they can do it and it is great that they are getting rewarded for their hard work.
“There still is a way to go but it is really pleasing to see the boys get a win out of it tonight and it is what they deserve after the effort they put in.”
Now sitting in fourth spot on the Hyundai A-League ladder, the Jets are building momentum under coach van Egmond.
“We feel pretty comfortable as a group in regards to what we want to do and how we are going to achieve that within the season,” he added.
“We fancied ourselves against Brisbane and unfortunately we didn-t get the points that night but our performance was good and so was our performance last week.
“The consistency we are showing is getting better and our positioning was good tonight.”
The Jets now turn their attention to the Central Coast Mariners and their game at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday afternoon. According to the Jets coach, they are the benchmark at this stage of the season.
“The Mariners are the most in form side in the competition,” he explained.
“They were extremely good against Adelaide and Graham Arnold has them well galvanised at the moment, despite the issues taking place in the Club.
“We will have a look at the video and determine the different areas we can expose them.”
