Kennedy said the prestige involved with being the first Club engraved on the new FFA Cup trophy was a big incentive for every Club involved in the competition.

However, the 27-year-old shot-stopper warned against looking too far down the road, saying the Jets’ only focus is on next Tuesday’s clash with Perth.

“It’s the first year of the FFA Cup, so obviously every team that is playing in it wants to be inaugural winners,” Kennedy said.

“We’re no different, so we’ll be putting everything on the line on Tuesday night so we can try to progress to the next round.

“It’s a another piece of silverware that is up for grabs now and in a knockout competition, anything can happen really, so we just need to focus on one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves.”

Kennedy said having a competitive game in early August was a nice change from the usual schedule of numerous pre-season friendly matches in the months leading up to the start of the Hyundai A-League season.

“It’ll be good to have a competitive game to see where we’re at,” Kennedy said.

“It’s still early in the pre-season, but there’s something on the line so we’ll definitely be up for the occasion.”

Kennedy said the opening night of the FFA Cup , which saw Northern NSW teams Broadmeadow Magic and South Cardiff FC in action, had built excitement ahead of the Jets’ first foray into the competition next Tuesday.

“It’s good to see a competition like this for football in Australia, especially for the local Clubs who are able to get national exposure,” Kennedy said.

“It’s a exciting format and I’m sure there will be a few upsets in the competition along the way.”

Jets Members are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets to receive a discounted price of $12* for adults and $5* for juniors.
