Grand Final travel arrangements

It’s going to be a big evening at McDonald Jones Stadium, with a sold-out crowd of more than 30,000 set to attend the Hyundai A-League’s first Grand Final outside of a capital city.

The Jets want everyone to get to and from the game safely, and NSW Transport has made special arrangements to cater for the expected crowds in Broadmeadow.

Pre-booked parking at McDonald Jones Stadium has sold out, so fans are encouraged to catch public transport with train and bus hubs within walking distance of the stadium.

The club is encouraging fans to leave the car at home where possible to avoid getting caught in the delays as traffic is expected to be heavy in the area.

If you have to drive you will need to arrive early, carpool where possible and make use of the Park & Ride facilities operating for the event in Newcastle, Wallsend and Kotara as parking near the stadium is very limited – from these locations shuttle buses will run regularly to the stadium.

Additional public transport measures:

  • Extra trains will run to Broadmeadow from Telarah and Gosford from the early afternoon, with normal services from Central.
  • Three extra bus services will run from Swansea and Queens Wharf, via Mayfield, with another two from Glendale.
  • Five special trains will be on standby at Broadmeadow to carry fans home after the final whistle.

Road closures:

  • Young Road will shut between Turton Road and Womboin Road from 3pm to 10pm. Buses and taxis will permitted through the closure.
  • Clearways will also run along Turton Road, between Griffiths and Lambton Roads, between 3pm and midnight.
