“Sam gives us a lot of energy on that left-hand side,” coach Gary van Egmond said after the game.
It had been more than 20 months since young Sam Gallaway played an A-League match, but last Saturday night he slotted in at left-back and earned himself a trip to Melbourne this week.
“Sam gives us a lot of energy on that left-hand side,” coach Gary van Egmond said after the game.
“The way we play, we definitely want to use our fullbacks and get them forward and create more doubts in the defence of the opposition.
“We probably haven-t had a left fullback going forward as much as I-d like on the left-hand side.
“Dominik-s (Ritter) been playing well, but he got hampered by a quad strain which is still nagging him a little bit.
“But as a central defender he does a very good job; he-s a good distributor of the ball.
“So we put Sammy on the left and I think he did an excellent job.”
The 20-year old admitted to some pre-game nerves.
“I was a little bit nervous, it had been a while since I have played an A-League came but once the whistle went, it was just a normal game for me,” Gallaway said.
