The Newcastle Jets Women today announced the 2014 Team Captain as Matilda Emily van Egmond, with Tara Andrews confirmed as Vice Captain.
Van Egmond last played with the Newcastle side two years ago before playing out last season with Western Sydney Wanderers, while Andrews has represented the Jets throughout her entire Westfield W-League (WWL) playing career.
Focused on progressing the game of women’s football in Australia for future generations of female players, van Egmond is keen to replicate a US state of mind within the WWL.
“I think America has a great mentality and they want to win at all costs, I truly believe that is why they are so successful, I think if we can take a bit from that mentality that it will put us in good stride,” van Egmond commented.
After being named Co-Captain of the Young Matildas in 2013, Andrews is pleased to again be rewarded with a similar role, “I’m delighted and honoured to be named Vice Captain,” she said.
Additionally, the Newcastle Jets Women are pleased to welcome McLanahan Corporation as Partner to the Newcastle Jets Women and The Sign Shop as Affiliate Sponsor. MSP Photography has become the Official Photographer of the Newcastle Jets Women.
Each of the sponsors announced today have previously provided support to the side. McLanahan Corporation and MSP Photography were player partners to Sophie Nenadovic and Rhali Dobson respectively in Season 6 and will again partner the players in Season 7.
Meanwhile, The Sign Shop has provided support to the Newcastle Jets Women across a number of seasons in recent years.
Season 7 of the Westfield W-League kicks off on Saturday 13th September when the Jets take on reigning champions, Melbourne Victory, at Magic Park.
