The Jets have a chance to move back into the six when they play Adelaide United this weekend.
After three consecutive wins and four games undefeated the Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets were defeated 2-nil by Perth Glory on the weekend pushing them into seventh position ahead of Friday night-s home game against Adelaide United.
“The loss showed that three wins can take you a long way but on the flip side if you lose one or two you can quickly find yourself heading back in the wrong direction,” assistant coach Craig Deans said.
“We need to keep winning and keep pressure on the teams above and below us, we are still controlling our own destiny at the moment and that is the main thing.
“The boys understand that they can-t keep dropping points at home or away and we need to keep positive and stay focused on our own game.”
Both times the Jets have met Adelaide this season, the games have resulted in a draw and Deans is hoping the team have learnt something from last weekend-s loss.
“Prior to Saturday-s game the attitude of the players was good but on the day Perth at home with the incentive of jumping further ahead of us were too strong and we didn-t match their intensity and effort,” he explained.
“It is disappointing and you don-t want to loose a game due to that but that is the way it was and we can learn something from their attitude.”
