The Newcastle Jets are devastated to confirm that Westfield W-League striker, Larissa Crummer has suffered a suspected broken leg.

The injury to the Australian international came early in the first half of the side’s clash with Adelaide United on Friday night, after a collision with the Reds keeper, Sarah Willacy inside the penalty area.

Paramedics present provided treatment on-field, placing her leg in a splint before taking the distressed striker to hospital.

The Club is flying Larissa’s mother to Adelaide to be with her daughter, and will provide whatever it can to help facilitate her recovery.

It’s too early to make any firm assessments on a timeframe for the injury, for which Larissa will undergo surgery on Saturday morning.

However, it’s suspected that it is an injury of a serious nature and as such, the Club’s medical department will keep the Westfield Matildas informed.

A distraught Westfield W-League boss, Craig Deans pledged the support of the coaching staff and playing group.

“It’s a devastating blow for Larissa, and us as a staff and all the girls will do everything and anything we can to help her get through this injury,” Deans said.

“Larissa had been enjoying her football in Newcastle, it’s never easy coming to a new club but she’d settled in well and is a much-loved member of the squad.

“We are all devastated.”

The Club will provide further updates as to the details and timeframe of the injury once that information is known.
