Consistency is key

The Jets are hoping to silence their critics this Friday night against Adelaide.

The Newcastle Jets are the first to admit that their away game form is letting them down this season and with three losses on the road, the team has their chance to silence critics this Friday night when they take on Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Ryan Griffiths believes that if the jets play like they did during their gutsy 2-1 loss to Brisbane Roar, the burden of not playing at home will be crushed.

“We need to win those away games and once we get that first win away, the burden will be crushed so hopefully we can do that on Friday,” Griffiths said.

“If we fight the same way we did on Saturday, we can win four or five nil.”

One area of improvement needed if the team is to win this week is consistency.

“We need to be prepared every single game and be consistent,” he explained.

“One thing I have learnt over the years, especially in Europe is that if you have an off-day you can expect to sit in the stands the following week.

“It is a luxury here that we have limited players and I think some players need to know that if they want to be the best that they can be then they need to be consistent.”

“This is something Dutchy (Gary van Egmond) is working with us on at the moment.”

The performance on Saturday showed that the Jets have the potential to really do some damage this season and with van Egmond now in charge, Griffiths says the team are starting to realise that they can do it.

“I think Saturday was proof that the belief that Dutchy has brought to the team,” the striker added.

“We were pressing high up on the field against Brisbane, who would of thought that we could do that.

“I think tactically on Saturday, we were outstanding and you can see that Dutchy really understands the game.

“I think that the boys are starting to realise we can do it, we can beat these bigger teams and we are going to have to a go on Friday.”
