The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets coaching staff have highlighted the performance of midfielder Zenon Caravella for this week-s ‘Coaches Choice-.

Each week the Newcastle Jets coaching staff will select one player who they believe played an important role in the previous weekend-s game.

The Coaches Choice will not necessarily be the man of the match, but rather a player who has caught the eye of the Jets coaching staff with certain aspects of their performance.

Jets head coach Gary van Egmond said Caravella-s positional awareness and his ability to keep possession of the ball under pressure were key to the Jets- win.

“Zenon reads the play very well.,” van Egmond said.

“He knows when to look to press and when not to. He also keeps nice and compact and in touch with the back four.

“I thought he had a very, very strong game against Melbourne Heart.”

Caravella said he was pleased to have played a key role in an important Jets win.

“It-s always nice to get personal accolades, but that-s just a bonus, the main thing was winning and getting the three points,” Caravella said.

“I felt comfortable out there and it was the first time in a long time that I enjoyed playing like that, so it felt good.

“I think it comes down to the players around me. Obviously I had a lot of support and everyone worked hard in the game.

“It-s just the way that everyone has made me feel. I feel very welcome here and I guess that-s very important.”

After playing his first home game for the Jets against the Heart last week, Caravella said he was already looking forward to getting back on the Hunter Stadium pitch for Friday-s crucial showdown with Brisbane Roar.

“I-ve always enjoyed playing at the Jets- stadium.,” he said.

“They-ve got great numbers here and the crowd definitely makes a difference for the team, that-s for sure.”
