Newcastle junior, Archie Goodwin is making inroads in the Club’s first team after an impressive second-half stint against the Brisbane Roar in the Jets’ 2-1 home defeat.
The Jets young gun is putting his teammates on notice, with the scholarship player being called upon by Coach Craig Deans at half-time.
Goodwin made a strong impact from the bench in the loss to Brisbane and the youngster was pleased to leave his mark on the game.
“I feel pretty comfortable doing what I do,” Goodwin said.
“Using my speed and backing myself.”
Goodwin isn’t looking for excuses to not put in the hard yards in training and is firmly focused on persevering for a place in the first team.
“Age is just a number,” Goodwin said.
“Whatever age you are, you have to push your hardest.”
Having been with the Emerging Jets since the age of nine, Goodwin has proven to be an exemplary product of the Jets academy system and intends to build on the experience he has picked up this season.
“I came in after the COVID break and trained with the boys,” he said.
“Went back to the youth team and went from there.”
Throughout this campaign, Coach Deans has looked to Goodwin to add some flair and intensity to the Jets’ play.
“Deansy gave me the chance to come here and get a taste of senior football,” he said.
“As soon as you don’t work your hardest, you’re letting your team down.
“Just run as much as I can and back myself.”
The young attacking forward is ambitious and wants to achieve with the Jets in the future.
“I’m going to try my hardest to get into the first-team and will go from there,” Goodwin said.
Along with his footballing development, Goodwin has to manage schooling commitments with the 16-year-old trying to maintain a productive balance between football and education.
“I’m part-time at the moment,” Goodwin said.
“Right now, I’m only doing subjects which makes it easier.”
